Its Spring Break! Time for relaxation... Lesson Planning, Meetings with Future Teachers, Preparing for upcoming #TeachFurther Presentations, creating resources for next year, working on Masters Class Projects, and more!
I am excited to announce our two #TeachFurther Spotlight Educators this week:
This week I participated in a few Twitter Chats: #edutechchat #educhat #ConnectedTL #ditchbook #KidsDeserveIt #colchat!
Although I was anxious to participate in an asynchronous conversation, I was surprised as I watched each conversation blossom. It was as if the leader of each chat posted a question - symbolizing the base of a tree. From there, twitter participates responded to the question. Following each post, followers commented on one another thoughts - creating a tree branch effect. Within a matter of minutes, educators had build a forest of conversation and connection. Fascinating!
I connected with outstanding educators this week - making it difficult to select just a few to highlight! Check out our #TeachFurther SpotLight Educators this week!

As I continue to expand my network of #TeachFurther Educators, I have found each connection has inspired and encouraged me to progress forward with our #TeachFurther style - leading our students one step further then expected.
This post, we will be highlighting a #TeachFurther Educator early in her career and pushing the bar to question how students can experience a Social Studies classroom! Anna Campbell - a first year teacher in Bloomington IL - may be navigating her way through her first year teaching, but is certainly working to create experience for her students! You can check out photos and notes from Ms. Campbells classroom on a shared Instagram page @EJHS6A as well as on her classroom website.
Our Next Spotlight Educator is actually a GROUP of Educators brought together by one of the Largest Midwest Educational Technology Conferences in the world!
#METC17 was the hashtag for the METC 2017 Conference! This conference was hosted on February 13th - 15th in St. Charles MO. Keynote speakers included our very own #TeachFurther Educator @burgessdave and @MsMagiera. The METC organization hosted a number of sessions from presenters around the Midwest Area!
I would encourage you to take some time exploring the educators using the #METC17 hashtag and follow @METCedplus to create strong connections with educators hoping to transform their classrooms into technology driven #TeachFurther classrooms - leading one step further! Conference dates for the 2018 school year have been posted!
Check out the METC Website for more details on how to attend!

Whether you're connected with your learning network on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, or an alternative outlet, it is important to reflect on who you surround yourself with. Who keeps you inspired? Who do you turn to while making a difficult choice? Who pushes you, even on your toughest days, to be better?
The idea for a TeachFurther Blog originated during a Masters Course I am completing at Illinois State University by @anna_phd. This blog aims to expand our network. Simply because an educator does not use a #TeachFurther Hashtag, does not imply they are not upholding the ideals of teaching beyond the textbook. Each week, I will highlight a new educator I have connected with who has chosen to #TeachFurther! These educators will be Spotlighted as a #TeachFurther Educator! I hope you choose to connect with them & stay inspired by the outstanding leaders we have in our community.
Today's Spotlight Educators :

In addition to her fantastic #TeachFurther Lessons - linking Reading & Writing to innovative activities and transforming her classroom into new worlds - Mrs. King also carries a strong background in Elementary Education. In addition to her daily Middle School teaching responsibilities, Mrs. King is dedicated to helping the Elementary Educational Community! Check out her Elementary Shenanigans Resources on Teachers Pay Teachers & connect with her on Twitter & Facebook. It would be challenging to not consistently be inspired by her daily dedication to improving education through her leading by example philosophy.
Dave Burgess @burgessdave
Dave Burgess is the Author of the award winning book "Teach Like a PIRATE." This is a must read for educators looking to expand their understanding of student engagement!
